“Domestic Disasters”
340 and Counting
There were 340 mass shootings in the U.S.A. in 2018.
There are 340 gilded tags hanging in the gallery.
Each tag has a number stamped in 23k gold leaf and each tag represents an incident where a shooter has killed or injured at least four people.
The first was on January 1, 2018, in Huntsville, Alabama. One person died. Three people were injured.
On October 27, in a Pittsburgh synagogue, 11 people were shot to death.
By the final day of 2018, 54 more mass shootings had taken place since the synagogue shooting.
As of December 12, 2018, 94 shootings had taken place in schools and on campuses. There were 163 casualties.
The majority of the shooters are white, male and between16 and17 years old.
Most of us remember, that on Valentine’s Day, 2018, 17 students were gunned down in Parkland, Florida. Most of these kids were white.
Most of us did not start paying attention until white kids started dying.
